BEWARE: Phone Scams Targeting IUB students
The IU 21st Century Scholars Program would like to remind all scholars to NEVER give away any personal/sensitive information such as social security or credit card numbers, over the phone. Several IU scholars have been recently targeted by phone scammers who claim to be from the IRS, IU Police Department, and/or Bloomington Police Department. Please note these are complete SCAMS. The phone scammers will ask students to pay a tax penalty for failing to submit the federal education tax credit form to the IRS. The scammers may also threaten students for arrest and/or a cancelation of their degree at IUB for not meeting their requests. Please remain vigilant and do NOT fall prey to these aggressive calls demanding immediate payment of a tax supposedly owed by the IRS.
