Why did you choose IU Bloomington?
"I chose IUB because of the programs, rigor, resources and reputation."
What advice would you give to a senior that you wish you would have known?
"Please use any and every resource you can, even if it’s near the end. It never hurts to ask questions, even just to clarify. Ask for help!
Lastly, most importantly, know that you and all your experiences are valuable, no one else is like you and more than likely what you know or have been through can benefit something or someone else. Talk to your professors and advisors. Oh, and read your emails!"
What was an obstacle that you overcame as an undergraduate student?
"Many... but the biggest obstacle was shifting my mentality and focus."
How did the 21st Century Scholar services at IU Bloomington benefitted you?
"The mentorship and advising in the office not only helped me finish my degree, they also helped me secure positions by improving my resume, furthered my personal and professional development, advocated for me in difficult situations and have continued to assist me post-graduation."
How did you remain successful as a 21st Century Scholar?
"Persistence, hard work, therapy and support from my mentor, advisors and instructors."
What was the best thing about being a 21st Century Scholar?
"Having a bachelor’s degree! Also, being a part of the legacy of scholars."
What were your favorite classes at IU and why?
"Intro to Sociology with Jen Berry, Race, Religion and Ethnicity in the Americas with Professor Stephen Selka, all three history courses I took with Professor Michael McGerr, World Arts & Cultures with Dr. Pravina Shukla, Sexual Diversity with Anna Russian, Sociology of Childhood with Professor Hyeyoung Kwon, and Marriage and Family Interaction with Julie James.
These are some of my favorite classes because they changed the way I looked at and interacted with the world. The information from these classes solidified my passions and focus. The professors were also essential to my experience in their courses but many of them have made an impact outside of their courses."
What activities (including employment) were you involved in?
"Black & BOLD, Peer Coach for the College of Arts and Sciences, Student Ambassador for Community and School Partnerships and the G.I.V.E. Back Program."
