Christmas Message from Vincent E.Isom, Director of IU 21st Century Scholars Program
Merry Christmas, Scholars! As we prepare for the spring 2017 semester, our office wants to take a moment to wish you a safe, happy and restful holiday season. When the holiday season comes around, it brings to mind the importance of caring for others and drawing together as a family or community. This is a simple reminder that we are here for you to aid you with any obstacles that you may encounter on your path to graduation. If you would like to simply talk, we are here for you. If you want to celebrate accomplishments that you have made, we are here to celebrate with you. If you would like to be featured in our newsletter, why wouldn’t we want to know how you are doing and what you are enjoying about being at Indiana University? Our office and I are here for you as part of our IU 21st Century Scholars family.
As many of you prepare to visit family and friends for New Year's, I hope you will take time to acknowledge the people who have positively affected your life. I am particularly thankful to the entire IU community for your unwavering support of our mission. Thank you for all that you do for the IU 21st Century Scholars Program. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to communicate with us at iub21cs@indiana.edu. Wishing you happy holidays and a beautiful, brilliant new year!
Message of Unity from Roy Y. Chan, Special Projects Coordinator of IU 21st Century Scholars Program
In the wake of this year’s elections, Indiana University Bloomington have witnessed some unfortunate expressions of bigotry and intolerance, here on the IU campus and elsewhere around the country. Obviously, these incidents are unacceptable and are inconsistent with our democratic values and our sense of common decency. Due to these events, many IU 21st Century Scholars are experiencing anxiety and feelings of physical and psychological insecurity. I want everyone to know that the leadership in our Department will do everything in its power to ensure the safety of our scholars. In these tumultuous times, we need to reassure one another that we care about the well-being of our community and we are committed to protecting the dignity and fundamental rights of all of its members.
With this said, if you or your friends have experience an act of discrimination or harassment based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and/or disability this semester, we ask that you kindly report it to Indiana University at http://biasincident.indiana.edu. Indiana University respects the privacy of those who have experiences of bias-based treatment.
