Miriam Attenoukon
Miriam “Mimi” Attenoukon is the Assistant Director of the 21st Century Scholars Program at Indiana University Bloomington. Prior to joining the 21st team, she worked for 16 years with the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program. Throughout her career in higher education, much of her focus has been on advising and developing programs aimed at connecting students with research, internship, career, and other professional development opportunities. Mimi also is a staff advisor for several student organizations, including the African Women’s Leadership Organization (AWLO), Future Minority Nurses Association (FMNA), HHart, Punjabi Club, and STEM Outreach.
Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Baltimore, MD, Mimi is a second-generation American born to immigrant parents from Benin, West Africa. Mimi also is a first-generation college student and pursued a geology major at Smith College. She also holds an M.S. degree and Ph.D. in geology from Indiana University.
Mimi has seven siblings and is the proud aunt of three nieces Imani, Sarah, and Nyah Colette; two nephews Austen and Sebastian; and to her siblings’ cats named after Langston Hughes and Smokey Robinson. She enjoys time spent with family and friends, movies, music, museums, outdoor activities, reading, traveling, baking, cooking, Karaoke, and being a foodie as well as a plant mom to mostly orchids, succulents, and cacti.
