5 Questions with Aaliyah
What activities on and off campus are you involved with?
"Occasionally I am involved in Queer Student Union events and Vegclub! I also love being involved in the Bloomington Music Scene! I enjoy going to house shows and supporting local artists! I was in a six-person band during my freshman and sophomore years and got to learn a lot about social media advertising, networking, design, and leadership while having a ton of fun singing and playing rhythm guitar! One of our favorite shows was at the Girls Rock Bloomington Festival which was a benefit concert! We got to play with four other local bands and raised $ 1,500 at that show for Girls Rock Bloomington! Moving forward this year I'm hoping to continue with music in different avenues in support of different organizations!"
How has being a 21st Century Scholar impacted your college experience?
"Being in the 21st Century Scholars program has allowed me to continue my education in college. Without it, I wouldn't have been able to afford to come here and wouldn't be in the BFA, which is a dream program here at IU. It's allowed me to experience all that comes with going to college like making life-long memories, obtaining deep relationships, having so much fun at events and get-togethers, and academically gaining experience and knowledge, networking, and leadership opportunities."
What do you hope to gain from your EARN Indiana internship with the 21st Century Scholars Program?
"Through my internship, I hope to gain first-hand experience in creatively marketing all that the 21st-Century Scholars program offers. I hope to give back and make a difference. I hope to use my creative skills in practice (with my colleagues) to develop meaningful opportunities for Scholars to gain the resources and support needed."
What would you like to do after you graduate?
"After graduation, I’d like to work for a creative marketing company as a graphic designer, illustrator, or creative project manager. I’d strive to be in a company that aligns with a brand image that is inclusive, eager for continuous growth, and creates impact through their work."
What is a fun fact about you?
"A fun fact about me is that I love learning about the ocean! And I adopted a painted turtle, his name is Nova!"
