How 21stCentury Has Helped You Succeed: “The IU 21st Century Scholars Program has helped me succeed by allowing me to explore what my limits are as a student and a future scholar. As a first-generation and low-income student at IU, I am extremely honored and humbled to have my tuition paid in full during the past four years of which have gave me a sense of relief and confidence to succeed in the IU community. The advisors at the IU 21st Century Scholars Program, specifically Jenifer L. Berry was my first interaction here at IU and she showed me the innumerable opportunities IU offered. I will always be grateful to have her as a mentor and an advisor throughout my time at IU.”

Why IU: “I chose IU because of the IU 21st Century Scholars Program and for the IU Kinsey Institute. I knew I wanted to study human sexuality and when I discovered IU had the Kinsey Institute, there was no other university that I wanted to attend. The campus was beautiful, I never felt out of place at the university, and the opportunities here were endless. I couldn’t image myself anywhere else but to be here at IU.”

Future Goals: “My future goal is to obtain a Ph.D. degree in Health Behavior and Health Education. I hope to teach human sexuality at a large research university as well as to conduct research on sex education programs in higher education. As an aspiring academic, I seek to conduct scholarly research on sex education intervention to understand how learners particularly the Millennial generation are receiving and comprehending sex education in the twenty-first century. More recently, I was admitted into the Master of Behavior, Social, and Community Health Program here at Indiana University Bloomington’s School of Public Health, of which I plan to start in Fall 2017.”
