Derrick is a true Hoosier originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. Derrick went to Pike High School and graduated in 2010. Derrick continued his journey at Indiana State University for his degrees (B.S., M.S., 2010-2016) in Information Technology and Student Affairs and Higher Education where he found a passion to help mentor students and everyday people to achieve their goals. Derrick is an emerging scholar-practitioner with extensive experience in program development, conflict resolution, residential life, diversity and inclusion, and admissions. He has been highly effective in working with students across difference and advocating for equitable resources for marginalized populations. A proven leader and established blogger for issues and topics that impact the Student Affairs global community, Derrick would like to pursue a PhD in the future. During his time out of the office, Derrick enjoys practicing self-care by running, spending time with family and friends, and grabbing a cup of coffee or beverage from Starbucks. His favorite beverage is the Pink Drink.
“As a classroom community, our capacity to generate excitement is deeply affected by our interest in one another, in hearing one another’s voices, in recognizing one another’s presence.”
